Product development - yoghurt drink for A) pregnant and lactating women, and B) children
Long-chain, polyunsaturated n-3 fatty acids (n-3 LC-PUFA) are naturally only absorbed from fatty cold water fishs and seaweed. Current studies of consumption habits in Germany show that in particular children do not achieve the recommended intake for n-3 LC-PUFA and that there is an increased need during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The development of the drinking yoghurt variants enriched with valuable n-3 LC-PUFA can therefore contribute to cover the needs of the two target groups and thus closing the supply gap

In the project, prototypes of the innovative drinking yoghurt variants were produced on a laboratory scale. The expected large-scale trials and the bottling of the drinking yoghurt could also not be carried out due to changes in the Herzgut Landmolkerei. For the marketing concept, as information tools a flyer for pregnant and breastfeeding women was prepared and a card game with several levels of difficulty was developed to provide playful information about the importance of fatty acids for health. The nutritional-physiological information of the powered drinking yoghurt was also compiled. However, it should be noted that the declaration of nutritional and health-related information on foods or their use in advertising is only permitted if the formulations are based on the "Health Claims" regulation, which are permitted by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA ).
