Opt4Forst - Optimization of success of forestry plantations with fungal symbionts - basis for the forest of the future
Since the first summer of drought in 2018, the forest has been in an alarming state due to dryness. All tree species are affected, conifers and deciduous trees alike. In Lower Saxony alone, there are 50,000 hectares that need to be reforested as quickly as possible due to the damage caused by bark beetles and drought. The cultural success of forest plantations, i.e. the safe growth with the lowest possible failure rates, especially in the first 2 years, is in principle the reflection of the implementation of good professional practice in the respective forestry operation. Problem: Currently, bottlenecks on all relevant levels (material, capacity, quality, qualification) lead to additional, actually avoidable, but in total actually serious deficiencies with economic and ecosystemic consequential damages. For the good professional practice, there are starting points for deficiency reduction, which are based on technically known facts, but for which there are no practicable products so far. The aspects of root protection, nutrient protection and microbial biostimulation can be specifically addressed here in a sensible, practicable and economical way.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
