The Soil Box
The project "The Soil Box" has the goal to transfer theoretically acquired knowledge in the field of soil science in the daily agricultural practice. This should be achieved with the help of a novel instrument for self-study. The Soil Box wants to combine well-proven know-how and new scientific findings. It offers subscribers working in agriculture and consulting the opportunity to obtain knowledge about the soil and its complex processes in an understandable and practice-relevant way.
The development of the tools for the individual boxes has been planned in close cooperation with experts in the field of agriculture, consulting and science. The practical tests and the further development take place by the farmers of the OG and with the extended network. The soil boxes will provide specific instructions to practitioners so that they are able to assess soil properties independently with the help of the necessary tools. Land managers and consultants should so be provided with comprehensive, didactically and technically sound tools for assessing current growth conditions.
Eight boxes have been developed, covering the topic of soil science from the basics to soil fertility. Each box is prepared in the same way and contains a magazine, a practical tool, matching practical instructions and worksheets to record the results. The high-quality preparation, from the magazines to the dispatch boxes, lays the foundation for a high level of intrinsic motivation to work through the boxes. At the end of the eight boxes there is a 7-point programme with which the user actively deals with and researches the quality of the soils. Deficits can be recognised and soil fertility can be improved in the long term.
