Humuvation - Innovative cultivation systems to promote yield stability and humus formation
Agriculture has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fix carbon through innovative cultivation systems and humus formation. In this project, existing cultivation systems are to be combined and adapted to the climatic conditions in Hesse in order to ensure humus build-up and yield stability. Multifactorial effects on the environment, climate and food production through the use of new catch crop mixtures and innovative cultivation systems will be scientifically analysed. To this end, exact trials are being carried out with the establishment of 36 trial plots using three different cultivation methods (tiller, direct sowing, plough). These will each be trialled with three different main crops (field bean, maize, winter wheat) after a catch crop adapted to the cultivation method. One result will be the establishment of a practical research network and a practical guide for arable farms.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
