Claw and limb diseases are directly or indirectly responsible for 75 % of all abortions of dairy cows and cause considerable economic losses in dairy cattle farming. So far, claw health data are missing to improve the breeding and to derive management recommendations.
More and more milk producers are using professional claw cutters (or trimmers) in their flocks. Active professional claw cutters (trimmers) in Baden-Wuerttemberg have to be integrated to the project to record identified claw diseases according to a list of uniform criteria. These data will be processed for animal breeding and herd management.
In Baden-VVuerttemberg, as many claw cutters and dairy cattle holders as possible should participate in a claw health monitoring according to defined tasks. Collected data on claw health is stored and evaluated trough a cattle data network. The presentation and evaluation of results are made available to farmers, veterinarians and consultants via online applications.
