From ecological intercropping to fine fiber
The cultivation of intermediate crops is desirable for ecological reasons of water protection and the promotion of biodiversity, but is generally unattractive for agricultural companies.
The affected companies are aiming to combine economical and ecological goals. On the one hand, the positive characteristics of hemp regarding nitrate accumulation etc. are known from the already existing summer cultivation of hemp, which can not economically compete with classical main crops. Winter farming, on the other hand, is new. It can significantly increase the creation of value of the crop area. This is possible because of a discovery from a predecessor project. Winter hemp fibres have a hitherto unknown fineness and are therefore suitable for the processing of high-quality textiles.
This project aims
1. to solve the operational intercropping problem,
2. to optimize and evaluate winter hemp by means of exact experiments,
3. to substainably increase the economic and environmental perspective of farms by a marketable product and
4. to transfer the procedure into practice.
