Project Title

Treatment of stable exhaust air by photocatalytic cleaning systems - upscaling for the requirements in agriculural practice

Project description

The aim of the project is to further develop the exhaust air cleaning system based on photocatalytic oxidation with the character functional model from the previous project CLEAN AIR and to test it in a real "stable laboratory". Here, the specific barn acts as an outsourced laboratory, since the complex composition of the barn exhaust air, in particular the dust load and the load with bioaerosols, cannot be simulated in the laboratory. All previous test models of the catalysts and new helix reactors have not yet left the laboratory scale.

Final report

Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.

Results focusing on practiceorientation

The upscaling should enable the further development of the functional model (prototype). Process modeling will be used to determine a minimum energy requirement. The investigations on exhaust air from pig barns will be expanded by stables with litter and possibly by poultry husbandry and a high degradation efficiency of the photocatalytic system should be supported by suitable pre-treatment processes. Unanswered questions such as the formation rate of molecular nitrogen, levels of anthropogenic trace substances in the stable exhaust air, the disinfection performance with regard to multi-resistant germs using qPCR analysis and experimental flow calculations are to be be clarified.
