Robot- and drone-based tree vitality monitoring in tree nurseries
The project RoboTreeSense deals with digital fitness monitoring of single trees in the tree nursery Bonk in Bad Zwischenahn, Germany, for early damage detection. Several optical sensor are mounted on a robot and a drone platform in order to detect spectral changes in the reflection pattern of the trees. Additionally, an electronic nose is used on both plathforms in order to detect the odor emission pattern of the trees, which should allow the detection of the onset of tree vitality decrease. This new monitoring approach improves the capabilities of the tree nursery to maintain the health of the plants with less resources.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
