Design and development of an IT-based process for cow-side recording and supply of health data an test results of cows and calves

Project description

The project partners have the aim of developing an animal health app. In order to facilitate the collection and provision of health data and findings for dairy farmers, it should be possible to use this in combination with various herd management programs on all common mobile devices. A communication tool should also enable contact with the responsible veterinarian via the app. In addition, a connection to the examination laboratory of the Thuringian Animal Disease Fund is planned. Using proven key figures, the influence of using the software on improving animal welfare in two Thuringian dairy herds wil be evaluated.

Results focusing on practiceorientation

1. Improvement of pen-side recording and supply of health data an laboratory test results of cows and calves by an easiliy operated application capable of running on standard mobile phones, with: an easy-to-operate user interface, fully automated matching of data, cow-side support of sampling for laboratory tests including data transfer, suply of laboratory test results tot he herd managers and vets mobile phones, communication the the vet and the lab via the application including appointments, recording of idividual scores (BCS, lameness, rumination, etc.), herd specific configuration, modular concept
2. Improvement of cows‘ and calves‘ health and longevity in the project herds by using the application in daily routine of herd management.
3. Estimation of the animal health effect achieved by the app
4. Improving data provision and communication between herd manager, veterinarian and laboratory
