Antago-Senecio - Integrated control of Senecio by antagonists and production technology
Ragworts (Senecio spec.) are increasing significantly in abundance, especially on extensively managed land. They contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are highly toxic to grazing animals. This increasingly threatens the use of farm grassland as a forage base, and the toxins can also enter our food supply through the food chain. Effective control of ragworts safeguards basic forage production. The aim of the project is to effectively regulate ragworts, which contain feeding toxins, while at the same time preserving biodiversity. To this end, biological and agricultural techniques will be used for population control.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
