From malting barley to organic beer - blueprint for regional and sustainable value chain management
If the politically desired expansion of organic agriculture only takes concern on promoting the conversion of agricultural farms, but leaves aside the necessary increase of processing capacities and consumption, then markets for organic commodities will collapse and a high dependency on subsidies will remain. For a successful transformation, the higher costs of organic production must be paid by the consumers. The research project contributes to the development of a regional value chain from organic malting barley to organic beer. It is about examining the difficulties and opportunities in building up a sustainable food supply chain. The findings should be generalized to serve as a blueprint for other food supply chains. The aim is that the concerned food supply chain will remain successful beyond the project duration. On one side efficiency-enhancing measures will be regarded in de project. But communication and marketing measures are seen as even more important.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
