Development, test, and implementation of a precision farming system to protect valuable objects below cultivated land
In some areas we find objects of value below cultivated land (like archaeological monuments). To protect these objects cultivation has to be restricted. Aim of the project is to develop, test and implement a precision farming system or technique that automatically and precisely regulates the cultivation depth (or even stops cultivation if necessary) so that valuable objects below the surface are saved from destruction. In addition the operational group will test the usability of the developed system for fertilization and plant protection purposes. To locate valuable objects in the field GIS data or Shapefiles will be used. A close collaboration between advisers and farmers and a series of field trials are necessary to obtain a usable and reliable system.
The aim to implement an economically neutral precision farming technique for saving valuable objects below cultivated land from destruction has been achieved. Furthermore, the technique could be successfully applied for fertilization and plant protection purposes. However, tillage operations require a complex upgrade of the available equipment and the initially intended usage of the tractor´s hydraulic for depth regulation turned out to be infeasible, which restricted the operational deployment to only one of the OG´s practice partners.
