Optimizing plant protection measures using agricultural meteorology
During three years of exact field trials the project aimed at providing the data base for a tool or model that could predict the effectiveness of growth regulators and plant protection products depending on the meteorological conditions at the time of application. This model, which requires besides plant protection product specifications only meteorological prognosis as variable input data, could be integrated into ISIP or made available to farmers as a new advisory tool.
Due to the complexity of the issue and the dependency of overriding factors like weather and annual fluctuations, the project aims could not completely be achieved. Yet, first statistically valid statements on how the effectiveness of the applied products depends on date, amount, and time of application could be made. To generate more knowledge and practically usable components for prognosis in model-based approaches the project members consider it necessary to conduct continuous work, accompanied by research activities.
