Development of an innovative upstream process for the extractions of proteins from horse serum
Objective of the operational group was to further improve the extraction of proteins from horse serum, concerning animal welfare and economic efficiency. Since serum is a highly complex medium with a large number of proteins and blood components, an innovative upstream process is required, whereby interfering components can be depleted to obtain an optimal starting material for the extraction.
With constant monitoring of the serum quality, attempts to deplete lipids or foreign proteins were carried out. It was also investigated whether a longer service life of the affinity chromatography column can be achieved through various measures. Here the storage of the starting product is an important part. At the end of the project, the most promising measures were evaluated and the transfer to production scale was checked.
