Project Title

Development of a holistic sustainability standard for fruit growing

Project description

The aim of this project is to adapt and apply the successful sustainability standard “Fair’n Green” (FNG) to the fruit growing industry. This sustainability standard "Fair’n Green" is the current standard in the field of viticulture, where it had much success. This project is the step from using the "Fair’n Green" standard not only in viticulture, but also in other fields such as fruit growing. With the help of pilot companies from North Rhine-Westphalia we are currently adapting and applying the "Fair’n Green" standard to the fruit growing industry.
To accomplish this task, the representatives of fruit growing companies, retail, consumers as well as further stakeholders of the fruit industry will be systematically involved in this project. The sustainability requirements of the fruit growing companies will be addressed company-specific through specialist consultancy.
A holistic approach is followed, which not only includes personal consulting but also contains Analyses of emissions (carbon footprint) and the use of modern IT-systems (digitalization).
A corresponding seal of quality for sustainable fruit (“Fair´n Green”) will increasingly become more importa
