RESIDUE Red. of resourc. use by red. of N supply by means of sub-area-specific fertilisation for broccoli a. ice salad using imaging sensor technol.
Vegetable crops are harvested during the phase of highest vegetative growth. A marketable yield therefore requires an adeqate supply of nutrients. For yield and quality nitrogen (N) supply plays an important role. The project focuses on the development of practical solutions for a reduction of N supply ≥ 20%. Therefore, the potential of sub-area specific N application will be examiend by using techniques of „digital precision farming“ in an „on farm research“- approach. The trials are undertaken on fields of the companies AMG GmbH/Behr Gemüsegarten GmbH and Mählmann Gemüsebau GmbH & Co. KG. These companies carry out the necessary production steps. For sub-area specific fertilization information on the actual nutrient status of the fields is necessary. The company Agravis Netfarming examines the crop rotation of the fields and develops fertilizer-spreading maps by using soil analyses. During the trials the company Agrarpohl takes drone images from the fields, which are subsequently calibrateted with soil and plant samples analysed for N content. From this application maps are constructed. The fertilization is done by using adeqate application technique.
The project RESIDUE aimed at investigating the possibilities for implementation of site specific nitrogen (N) fertilization by using imaging sensors in field vegetable production. These techniques hold the potential to increase the N-fertilization efficiency and to reduce the risk of nitrate leaching. For identification of specific sites drone- and satellite techniques are used. Compared to agricultral crops there is little information available. Some results could be gained for the vegetables broccoli an ice lettuce. The central challenge was the calibration of the data obtained from the drone. In a number of trials corelations have been found between indices calculated from drone data and the N content of the plants. But a robust conclusion from the indices to the N-content of the plants was not possible. Several aspects have been identified to be important for future research on this topic: suitability of the indices ... (see final report)
