DükonaR Fertilizer concentrates from remnants
The nutrient report of Lower Saxony 2016/2017 shows considerabe surpluses of nitrogen and phosphorus, especially for the Weser-Ems region. According to the new Fertilizer Application Ordinance even more nutrients will have to be exported. The aims of the project are developing and testing an enclosed composting process which leads to a solid fraction, containing mostly phosphorous and a liquid one of concentrated nitrogen. Mixing of liquid manure or fermentation residues with structural aids, such as straw or others usable humus is being planned. The exhaust is cleaned and the nitrogen is concentrated in the washing water. This process is planned with the participation of manufacturers of corresponding plant components and imploemented on a local farm. This enables research under practical conditions, which is of considerable relevance to the evaluation and transferability of the results into practice.
The aim of the DükonaR project is to produce fertiliser concentrates that are suitable for transport. For this purpose, manure and structural materials are to be composted together in a converted 40 ft overseas container and the heat of the composting is to be used to evaporate ammonia and water from the compost. In a downstream sulphuric acid-operated chemical exhaust air purification system, the ammonia is washed out of the exhaust air and the clean gas can then escape with the water vapour. The products produced are a P and K-rich compost, the total mass of which is significantly reduced, and an ammonium sulphate solution, which serves as a mineral liquid fertiliser.
It was not possible to produce a qualitative compost product in four rounds, as insulation had to be dispensed with for cost reasons. As a result, the composting container cooled down too much and cold supply air could not be sufficiently heated by the compost. The water discharge was too low, so that the mass
