Hazelnut production by means of an innovative cultivation system/ creating the foundation for an innovative control of the C. nucum

Project description

• Development and testing of an innovative cultivation system (tree training practice as a "spindle” (pyramidal shape)) and suitable hazelnut varieties for Thuringia (assessment of the varieties with regard to their development and initial yields).
• Accompanying the development of the infestation of the nut weevil Curculio nucum with a basic investigation to check whether decision-making aids (prediction model) for innovative approaches to regulating the insect can be designed for cultivation practice.
• Establishing suitable harvest and storage methods.
• Observation of the tree development and reacting to emerging challenges (pests, diseases, nutrients, weather influences).
• Literature research, expert surveys and excursions thematically appropriate to the challenges that have arisen and relevant topics.
• Investigation of the influence of the weather and the location on nutritionally important ingredients.
• Preparations for the investigation of the influence of chicken farming within the hazelnut plants (symbiotic effects).
