Project Title

LURUU – Application of laser light to control weed plants prone to develop resistance to chemical herbicides

Project description

Weeds are becoming increasingly resistant to numerous herbicides due to the use of a limited set of active substances in chemical pesticides, close grain crop rotation and increasing ploughless soil tillage. The approach of this project is using mobile laser technology as innovative method of controlling resistant grasses such as black-grass (Alopecurus myosuroides) and loose silky-bent (Apera spica-venti). Regarding sustainability (e.g. conservation tillage) and biodiversity / climate protection (no use of chemical pesticides), the use of laser technology offers a forward-looking alternative. For this purpose, a laser treatment device for use in the field is being developed to effectively and sustainably control black-grass and loose silky-bent. Three different control strategies are investigated on an affected area. Based on the obtained data, the laser treatment is analyzed in practice and evaluated from an agricultural, technical and economic point of view.
