Sub-plot differentiated and optimised nutrient management in arable farming
No field is uniform in soil texture and moisture. As a result, not all crops receive the ideal fertilisation. With too little nutrients, they do not reach their full yields. Where too much fertiliser arrive, it results in environmental contamination. The project’s aim is a precise calculation of fertiliser need for sub-areas.
The Tonia project partners will enhance soil sensors for creating high-resolution 3D soil texture maps to a depth of 150 cm. They are also taking soil moisture and weather models into account. In combination with yield models, nutrient target value maps and maps of the usable field capacity will be produced with a resolution of 10x10 mts. For this grid, the amount of fertiliser per hectare can be differentiated according to sub-areas. Instead of simply distributing the total amount of nutrients as calculated according to German fertilizer regulation evenly over the field, they can be precisely applied according to the actual requirements on the subplot.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
